Summer at Cupcake Heaven

I've just realised I haven't posted since the start of the summer, so though I'd just let you know what's been going on in the Cupcake Heaven kitchen over these very rainy couple of months up here in Lancaster.

We've made cupcakes for a baby shower (welcome to the world Evie!) which included some carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese icing for those who don't have such a sweet tooth, as well as our traditional vanilla ones.

We've made cupcakes for birthdays: ballet inspired and Doctor Who themed.

Thank-you gifts for teachers, and for colleagues as Holly goes off to live in Australia.

And cupcakes for 2 bigger events: the Lancaster Giants Junior football presentation evening as well as the Christ Church Year 6 leavers assembly

Phew, I thought it had been a quiet Summer, but actually I've been pretty busy.  Mustn't forget the 2 bigger birthday cakes.  One for a 75th birthday and the other for Charlie's 10th birthday.

And thank-you to the Fogg family's hens who have been laying eggs daily for us these past few weeks!

Cupcakes for a June wedding

June was a busy month for Cupcake Heaven.

On the 1st June I made 100 cupcakes & a top cake for Nina & Matthew's wedding at Scorton.  I have been both nervous & excited about this for a while, and everything went surprisingly smoothly!  The bride & groom had asked for a mixture of chocolate & vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing.  There were a mix of sizes, and different toppings - sunflowers, gerbera & hearts.  The top cake was a simple design with bride & groom characters sat on the top, amongst the flowers ( a jam & buttercream filled vanilla sponge).

 The cakes arrived at the venue in one piece (after some very slow driving) and were enjoyed by the wedding guests.


Following the wedding, I made cakes for 2 birthdays over 1 weekend.  A giant chocolate cupcake for my son's friend, Joe who was 12, and by special request, 15 'Cutie Pie' Moshi Monsters cupcakes for another birthday party.

July sees another busy month, well, a very busy week; ballet themed cupcakes for a 5th birthday girl, 50 football cupcakes for the Lancaster Giants Junior football club annual presentation evening & cupcakes for a family birthday get-together.  Looking forward to it!

Our first Cupcake Heaven cupcake decorating party

This afternoon saw our first ever Cupcake Heaven cupcake decorating birthday party.  7 girls aged between 9 and 12 arrived at the birthday girls house to spend 2 1/2 hours baking chocolate & vanilla cupcakes, making sugar-craft toppings, icing the cupcakes with buttercream icing, and finally decorating their cupcakes.

Time flew (as did many sprinkles) and the girls creations can be seen in the photo below.  There were some impressive designs - especially Elizabeth's hand-crafted penguin.  The girls finished off by decorating their own name tags to be attached to their cupcake heaven gift bag to take home (if the cakes weren't all eaten beforehand!)

The best decorated cupcake competition, voted by all the party-goers, was won by Ella - the birthday girl.

A month of birthdays...

It's been a busy month in the Cupcake Heaven kitchen with birthdays galore.

We've ranged from 12 and 13th birthdays, up to my lovely cousin's 40th and a fabulous work colleague's 60th birthday.  My favourite had to be the Safari themed cupcakes for Charlotte's birthday.  I loved making the jungle animals for the toppings, and they looked great with the grass butter cream icing!

In amongst the birthday creations, I saw my bride-to be and her husband & mum for a tasting session & they made the final decisions on the design for their wedding cupcakes on June 1st.  I'm very excited to be doing the cakes for such an important day, and will be there on the morning setting them up at the venue (I'll take lots of photos, I promise!)

40th birthday cupcakes

Today I unpacked my Kenwood Chef food mixer, which will make a huge difference when I have large orders to make.  I borrowed a friends earlier in the month & really didn't want to give it back.  Can't wait to try it out!

May sees a few more birthday orders, and my very first Cupcake Heaven cupcake decorating party, with 6 girls learning to make sugar-craft toppings, how to ice their cupcakes with a piping bag & nozzle, and I think there's be a lot of edible glitter & sparkles around!

Birthday cupcakes & marathon training

March is almost over, and where has the month gone?  It seems to have been a really busy one, with cupcakes, the boys football as well as marathon training.

We've had Mother's Day cupcakes, Liverpool Football themed cupcakes, 1st birthday cupcakes and space-themed cupcakes, as well as lemon, marbled, coffee & walnut, rocky road and strawberry suprise!

As well as making cupcakes, I've found a new free website provider called Weebly and have set up a new cupcake heaven website, which I'm really pleased with.  I've also managed to set up an email mailing list.  If you'd like to be the first to hear our cupcake heaven news & find out about any special offers, sign up through the link on our website.

As for the marathon, I've reached week 4 of a 16 week training plan, and will be running the Lancaster Marathon on Sunday June 24th.  After 'retiring' from running, I saw the Animal Care newsletter (the local animal sanctuary) asking for a volunteer to run the marathon to raise money for them, and in a moment of madness I found myslef up there offering myself!  It's been a hard few weeks (and I've often found myself thinking "what have I done?") but I'm starting to feel OK about it now.  If anyone would like to volunteer to marshal on the day, please let me know.  It will all help to raise more money for Animal Care.

And there have to be some plus sides - it does mean that I can eat more cupcakes :-)

Cupcakes for your Mum, and for an Easter treat.

This afternoon has been a busy one in the Cupcake Heaven kitchen. I've been thinking about Easter cupcakes for a little while now, but suddenly reaslised Mother's Day comes first (on the 18th March if you hadn't realised).

So while the boys were out watching Morecambe win (for a change) I set about making some sugar craft toppings & creating some cupcake designs for Mother's Day & Easter.

The first box contains a mixture of lemon & vanilla cakes, and can be bought in boxes of 6 or 12, to be delivered on Saturday 17th March (in the Lancaster area). Cupcake heaven cupcakes usually cost £1 per cake, but these are available at 6 for £5 and 12 for £10.

The Easter cupcakes contain Easter Bunnies (what else!), nests (with both cadbury's mini eggs & cadbury's flake - I think we'll be fighting over these in my house) as well as spring flowers. There is a minimum order of 6, with the cakes costing £1 each,

The past few weeks has seen a couple of birthday orders - one for Sharon who has been a great help in expanding my business, and another for my lovely Mum, who came over to Lancaster for a birthday meal last weekend. Photos below.

Love hearts and rolos...

Last night I made a trial batch of Valentines cupcakes (the boys have gone off to school happy with a nice treat in their lunch-box).

I made vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream icing with 2 designs.  The first is a lilac sugar heart with a  love heart sweet on the top, in a pink cupcake case.  The other is a 'my last rolo' cupcake in a red cupcake case with tiny red edible hearts sprinkled on the top.  And of course, a rolo.

I'm taking orders to be delivered in the Lancaster area (or collection for orders outside Lancaster) for Monday 13th & Tuesday 14th February, and there is no minimum order.  Single cupcakes will be presented in a clear single cupcake case (see photos below).  For orders of 4 or more, the cakes will be delivered in a white box with special valentines ribbon.

The valentines cupcakes cost £1 per cake, or take advantage of my special offer of 6 for £5.

Birthday cupcakes and Valentines day.

I've been busy making cupcakes for 2 birthday parties; the first a 60th up in Durham, and today, for a 16th birthday closer to home.

I've found a brilliant local supplier, Cakes, Cookies & Crafts.  See their online shop at http://www.cakescookiesandcraftsshop.co.uk/  They have a brilliant collection service from their warehouse in Morecambe, which saves waiting for a delivery if you need things in a hurry, and also saves the cost of postage.

The 60th birthday cakes had an 'autumn yellow' and gold colour scheme, with handcrafted flowers, hearts and '60's'.  I was really pleased with the results - they looked great on the stand that we have available to hire.

For the cupcakes for today's birthday, I used different colours to ice the cakes as well as the sugar toppings.  I really like the cake with the flake & sprinkles - it reminds me of an ice-cream cone.  My boys were very pleased to hear that there are some left over for them to try after school today.

Happy New Year from cupcake heaven!

Cupcake heaven's kitchen has finally quietened down after an influx of orders for boxes of christmas cupcakes.  I've had some great feedback & lots of cards handed out - thank-you :-)

The year has started off well, with my fist wedding order confirmed for 1st June 2012.  Can't wait.  I'm also having lots of ideas for themed boxes, starting with Valentines Day in February, pictures to follow.

If you have a party, a celebration, an opening or any special occasion coming up, please contact me & I can discuss cupcakes made personally for you.  Prices start from £1 per cupcake, and will be dependent on the topping that you choose.  You can have sugar paste toppings, or sprinkles or crumbled flake bars - whatever takes your fancy.  See my flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupcakeheaven0/ for the cakes I have created to date, or perhaps have a look at some of the cupcakes on google images - there are some fantastic creations!

I also hire out cupcake stands - ranging from 2 tiers to 7.

As well as creating the cupcakes, I need to become a bit more IT savvy (or have a bit more patience) and set up a proper website,  as well as learning more about the business side. Any tips would be gratefully recieved...

Finally, my luxury buy of this year which I am busy saving up for (and would make life a whole lot easier - as well as being a lovely feature in my kitchen) is a KitchenAid artisan mixer (see picture below).  Not much to ask for!
