Yesterday was the day of my first big christmas cupcake order - for the staff at Moorside Primary School in Lancaster as a christmas gift from one of the lovely teachers there :-)
26 cupcakes. So I spent Sunday evening making the toppings out of sugarpaste - snowflakes, christmas trees & holly. I had a lovely time colouring the icing & using edible glue to stick the baubles on the little christmas trees.
Then yesterday I made the 2 batches of cakes & then started on the icing. Then disaster struck!! I thought I could smell marzipan whilst I was making the buttercream icing, and instead of putting in vanilla extract, I realised I had put in almond essence. Oops! A quick trip to Booths to buy the vanilla, and a new batch of icing was made. Just in time to box up the cupcakes, tie a blue ribbon around the box & stick the 'cupcake heaven' logo on it! I was really pleased with the end result & hope the teachers have enjoyed them too.

First order!
This morning has seen me calmly baking & icing cupcakes for my first 'official' order.
I can now breathe a sigh of relif as they have left the building and are now in the hands of the birthday boy. I spent last night colouring the sugarpaste & creating the Man Utd red football shirts & stars for the 40th birthday party, and was up early ready to bake the 14 cakes.
Funny how, after baking so many cupcakes recently, they seemed to rise more than usual, which slightly stressed me out, but once iced they looked fine, and me & my 3 testers all said they tasted good too (I did make a few extra!).
Had to try them out on the new stand too, and I was happy with the morning's work. Let's hope the birthday boy is too :-)
